Lil Darling

This evening I was faced with one of the toughest questions from Lil Darling. In her preschool class, there are three little girls who have formed a mini cliche. Their moms are friends, so by default, these three little ones are friends. Up until the past week, Lil Darling has been able to get along with these little girls. But, now they have turned mean and are ganging up on others. Lil Darling was scratched and bitten last week, Lil Darling bit one of these girls, and today, Lil Darling was punched in the face - punched!

Lil Darling was telling me about this latest incident, and asked, "Why do people have to be mean?" I was unsure of how to answer. Mr. Chera & I have strived to raise a girl who is happy, lively, outgoing, strong, loving. And to see her sad or disappointed by someone, broke my heart. The inner "Momma Bear" got mad, though. I had a hard time answering her without telling her to beat the snot out these little girls the next time. I explained some people are not nice all of the time. And, she shouldn't play with them when they are being mean to one another and others. It is so hard being a parent sometimes. Luckily, she has a best friend in this class (they have been friends since they were 13 months old).
